1) Microwave Popcorn
It contains three of the most harmful chemicals in food, including diacetyl. This is found in the popcorn’s butter flavoring. Even though microwave popcorn manufacturers replaced it with something much safer, it was found that other diacetyl substitutes are not entirely safe, either. They still contain traces of diacetyl. This chemical affected employees who worked in the manufacturing of microwave popcorn that it caused scarring in their lungs, from which the term “popcorn lung” was coined.
