Born Barbi Klein, Barbi Benton started her career by modeling at the age of 16, and after graduating high school, she went to UCLA. At age 18, she took a job with Playboy for their entertainment show Playboy After Dark, which she co-hosted alongside Hugh Hefner. She and Hefner dated, and she was a big part of Playboy brand. Hefner convinced her to change her last name to Benton to make her more marketable and also put her on the cover of Playboy magazine four times. Benton also appeared as herself on the comedy show Hee Haw for sketch segments, and even had a brief career as a country music artist with 4 albums to her name.

Benton left the Playboy and Hollywood lifestyle when she chose to have a family when she married George Gradow, a real estate developer in 1979. The couple has two children, and live in Los Angeles and Aspen. Her home “Copper Palace” was featured on HGTV’s show Million Dollar Rooms in 2012.
